More than half of employers in Latvia pay below minimum wage to their employees, said State Revenue Service representative Sandra Karklina Admine in an interview with the Latvian public television on July 24th, cites LETA.

She said that the State Revenue Service has contributed considerable
resources to the fight against shadow economy, and one of this year’s priority
is fight against unregistered wages. Such risks are high in the catering
sector, for example.
"More than half of employers in the country employ their workers for
less than the minimum wage. In the catering sector 65 percent of companies pay
below the minimum wage, and 20 percent pay wages ranging from the minimum wage
to EUR 700 a month," she said.
