Latvia registers one of EU's largest budget surplus in Q1

In the first quarter of 2017, Latvia had one of the largest general government budget surpluses against GDP among EU member states, according to data on 20 EU member states released by Eurostat, informs LETA.
The statistics show that in January-March 2015 Latvia's budget surplus was
equal to 0.5% of GDP. Malta had a budget surplus of 3.5%, the Netherlands and
Germany had each budget surpluses of 1.5%, the Czech Republic had a 1%
surplus.
Lithuania posted a budget surplus of 0.4%, but Estonia - by 0.2%.
France ran the largest budget deficit (-3.3% of GDP), followed by Romania
(-3.2%) and Poland (-1.5%).
