7 EU countries report even higher joblessness than in Latvia

With 8.3% of the population out of work, Latvia reported the eighth highest unemployment in the European Union (EUR) in May 2017, Eurostat informed today, cites LETA.
The seven countries reporting even higher joblessness than in Latvia in May
included Spain (17.7%), Italy (11.3%), Cyprus (11%), Croatia (10.7%), Portugal
(9.8%), France (9.6%) and Finland (8.8%).
The lowest unemployment rates, meanwhile, were recorded in the Czech
Republic (3%), Germany (3.9%) and Malta (4.1%).
In Lithuania, unemployment was 7.3% in May.
The EU’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate remained unchanged from
April at 7.8% in May, the lowest point since December 2008. In May 2016, the
EU’s unemployment rate was 8.7%.
In the eurozone, the unemployment rate averaged at EUR 9.3% – unchanged
from April and the lowest since March 2009. In May 2016, the unemployment rate
in the eurozone was 10.2%.
