Lithuania's accommodation industry posts 8.6% y-o-y rise in Q1 guest numbers
In I quarter 2017, the number of foreign guests received by
Lithuania’s accommodation establishments totalled 248.8 thousand (by 6.5 %
more than in I quarter 2016). The number of tourists from the EU countries totalled
129.8 thousand (by 8.6% more), from non-EU countries – 119 thousand (by 4.4%
more). Almost half (49.2%) of the foreigners accommodated were guests from the
neighbouring countries – Russia (15.1%), Belarus (14.8%), Latvia (10.3%), and
Poland (9%). Compared to I quarter 2016, the number of quests from neighbouring
countries grew by 5.2%. The number of guests from Asian countries increased:
from South Korea – by 62.3, Israel – by 24.7, China – by 4.9%; meanwhile, the
number of tourists from Japan decreased by 7.6%.

More than half – 60.8% – of foreign tourists stayed in
Vilnius.
The number of Lithuanian’s residents accommodated totalled
261 thousand, which is by 10.7% more than in I quarter 2016.

Almost a third (28.4%) of tourists stayed in the
accommodation establishments of resort towns: Druskininkai – 79.6
thousand, Palanga – 39.1 thousand, Birštonas – 24 thousand, Neringa – 2
thousand guests. Against I quarter 2016, the number of guests increased in the
accommodation establishments of Birštonas (45.7%), Neringa (40.7%) and Palanga
(13.6%); meanwhile, in Druskininkai, it decreased by 2.5%.
In I quarter 2017, the country’s hotels and motels
accommodated 412.8 thousand tourists, or by 8% more than in the same
quarter of 2016. Out of that number, 359.7 thousand (87.1%) stayed in the
hotels and motels of the major cities and resort towns. The hotel and motel
room and bed occupancy rates stood at 42.6 and 31.1% respectively.
In I quarter 2017, Vilnius hotels and motels accommodated
169.4 thousand tourists, which is by 6.7% more than in I quarter 2016; the
number of foreign tourists amounted to 132.9 thousand, or by 7.3% more.
