The unemployment rate in Lithuania stood at 8% in Q1 2017
In I quarter 2017, the youth (persons aged 15–24) unemployment
rate stood at 14.8%, and against the respective period of 2016, increased by
0.3ppt, against IV quarter 2016, by 0.2 ppt.
Over a quarter, the long-term unemployment rate remained
almost unchanged; in I quarter 2017, it stood at 2.9%, and against the
respective period of 2016, it decreased by 0.4 ppt.

In I quarter 2017, there were 117.7 ths unemployed persons,
of whom 17.1 ths unemployed persons aged 15–24. Against the respective
period of 2016, the number of unemployed persons aged 15–74 decreased by 4.9 ths;
against IV quarter 2016, increased by 5.7 ths.

The number of the long-term unemployed was 42.4 ths, or 36 %
of the total number of the unemployed. In I quarter 2017, the number of the
long-term unemployed was by 6 ths less than in the respective period of 2016
and by 1 ths more than in IV quarter 2016.

The employment rate of persons aged 15–64 stood at 69% in
Q1 2017
In I quarter 2017, the employment rate of persons aged 15–64
stood at 69%; over a year, it increased by 0.7 ppt, and over a quarter, it
decreased by 0.7 ppt. The difference between the male and female employment
rates of the said age group decreased to 0.1 percentage point (male – 69.1,
female – 69%).
In I quarter 2017, the youth (persons aged 15–24) employment
rate stood at 29.3 %; against the respective period of 2016, it increased by
0.3 ppt, and against IV quarter 2016, it decreased by 1.3 ppt.
Over a year, the employment rate of persons aged 55–64
increased by 2.1 ppt; over a quarter, it decreased by 0.2 ppt. In I quarter
2017, it stood at 65.3%.

In I quarter 2017, the number of persons classified under
the labour force totalled 1 mln 463 ths; against the respective
period of 2016, it decreased by 10.3 ths, against IV quarter 2016 – by 7.4 ths.
In I quarter 2017, there were 1 mln 345 ths employed
persons. Against the respective period of 2016, their number decreased by 5.5 ths,
against the previous quarter – by 13.1 ths.
In I quarter 2017, there were 98.1 ths employed persons aged
15–24. Over a year, their number decreased by 5.3 ths, over a quarter – by 5.6 ths.

In I quarter 2017, there were 962.2 ths economically
inactive persons aged 15 and older; more than half (56.5%) of them were old-age
pensioners and persons entitled to anticipatory old-age pension.
In I quarter 2017, there were 219.2 ths (65.6 %) economically
inactive persons aged 15–24; 91. % of them were studying at general, vocational
schools, schools of higher education (colleges, universities).
