A poll that was carried out by polling company Klaster in April 2009 demonstrated that approximately a quarter of Estonian population does not support the adoption of the euro, writes Postimees Online/LETA. A little more than two thirds of Estonian residents support the adoption of the euro.

4% of those who were polled noted that they are completely indifferent on whether or not to adopt the euro. There are significant differences in the opinions in terms of gender and income of respondents.

Men tended to be much more positive towards the euro than women. Nearly a third of women were sceptical about the euro and only 22% of them support the single currency fully. Among men, a little less than half of them noted that they fully support the adoption of the euro and only a fifth does not. Hence the difference in full supporters of the adoption of the euro among men and women is nearly two times.

In terms of income, there is a trend that the higher the income, the more positive is a person on the adoption of the euro. Those who earn the average pay or higher in Estonia, are much more frequently in favour of the adoption of the euro.

The poll included 937 respondents aged 17-71.
