Latvia records EU's highest annual inflation in March

Latvia had the European Union's highest inflation this past March year on year, according to Eurostat data released on Wednesday.

Consumer prices in Latvia in March were 3.3%  higher than in March 2016. Lithuania recorded 3.2% inflation, but Estonia - by 3%.


Annual inflation was registered in all 28 EU member states in March, on which the data are available, with the lowest rates reported by Romania (0.4%), as well as Ireland and the Netherlands (by 0.6% in each).


Euro area annual inflation was 1.5% in March compared to the same month last year. The EU annual inflation was 1.6% in March.


Compared to February 2017, consumer prices in the EU increased 0.6% in March 2017, while the eurozone recorded a 0.8% rise.


Consumer prices in Latvia rose 0.9% in March from February 2017. Lithuania recorded 1.1% and Estonia 0.4% monthly inflation in March.
