Unemployment level in Latvia falls to 8.3% at end-March

Unemployment rate in Latvia reduced 0.1 percentage points (ppt) to 8.3% in March, according to the State Employment Agency's data reports LETA.

At the beginning of March, 79,152 unemployed persons had registered with the Employment Agency, while at the end of the month there were 76,431 unemployed persons.


Among the cities, the lowest unemployment level in March was registered in Riga - 4.8%. Unemployment in Valmiera was at 5.2% in March, in Jelgava - 5.7%, Ventspils - 6.4%, Jurmala - 6.8%, Jekabpils - 10.3%, Liepaja - 10.9%, Daugavpils - 11.8%, and Rezekne - 15%.


The Employment Agency helped 5,719 persons find a permanent job in March. At the end of March, there were 7,121 vacancies in the Employment Agency's database.


At the end of March 2016, the unemployment rate for Latvia was 9.1%.
