Unemployment in Latvia slightly grows to 9% in November
In early November the State Employment Agency had registered
74,053 jobless people, but at the end of November their number rose by 1,295
people to 75,348.
The lowest unemployment rate, 5.1%, was recorded in Riga
region, while the highest jobless rate, 17.6%, was in the eastern Latvian
province of Latgale. At the end of November this year, unemployment was at 9.8%
in the western province of Kurzeme, 8.8% in Vidzeme in north-east of the
country, and 7.7% in Zemgale in southern Latvia.
Among Latvia's largest cities, unemployment stood at 4.8%
in Riga, 5.5% in Valmiera, 5.7% in Jelgava, 6.2% in Jurmala, 6.6% in
Ventspils, 9.2% in Jekabpils, 11.1% in Daugavpils, 10.8% in Liepaja and 15.3% in Rezekne.
Altogether 4,178 jobless people found permanent employment
in November, and there were 5,167 job vacancies registered in the database of
the State Employment Agency at the end of the month.
