Changes in prices for consumer goods and services in Lithuania

Statistics Lithuania informs that in October 2016, compared to September, prices for consumer goods and services increased by 0.5%. The overall price change was mainly influenced by an increase in prices for footwear, clothing, fuels, as well as by a decrease in prices for passenger transport by air, fruit, vegetables.

Over the said period, prices for consumer goods increased by 0.8%, while those for services decreased by 0.2%. The influence of the changes in prices for consumer goods on the overall monthly price change stood at plus 0.57 percentage points (ppt), while the influence of the change in prices for consumer services stood at minus 0.04 ppt.


Prices for consumer goods and services regulated by State and municipal authorities increased by 0.3, market prices – 0.6%. The influence of the changes in prices regulated by State and municipal authorities stood at plus 0.04 ppt, the influence of the changes in market prices stood at plus 0.49 ppt.

Compared to the previous month


In October 2016, against September, among food products and non-alcoholic beverages, a 3.8% decrease in prices was observed for fruit, 3.5% – vegetables. Among vegetables and fruit, the largest decrease in prices was observed for lemons – 42.2, cabbages – 24.1, onions – 21.5, root crop (carrots, beetroots) – 19.6, mandarins – 13.1, potatoes – 11.8, green vegetables – 8.5 %, while increase – melons – 11.8, grapefruits – 9.4, oranges – 7.5, kiwi fruits – 6.2%. Curd went down in price by 2%, soft drinks, fresh and chilled fish – 1.6% each, eggs and tea – 0.7% each, poultry – 0.6%. However, fruit and vegetable juice went up in price by 5.6, margarine – 5, butter – 3.9, edible offal – 3.3, canned meat – 3, processed cheese – 2.8, sugar – 1.8, smoked fish – 1.5%.


As regards goods related to energy, liquid fuel went up in price by 5.5, liquefied gas for cars – 4.1, liquefied gas for cooking – 2.8, heat energy – 2.8, petrol – 2.5, diesel fuel – 2.3%.

In October 2016, against September, due to new autumn collections, prices for footwear increased by 13.2, other articles of clothing and clothing accessories – 8.8, clothing – 4%.

Among alcoholic beverages and tobacco products, a 2.4% decrease in prices was observed for wine, 1.6% – beer. Tobacco products went up in price by 0.8%.


As for other goods, an increase in prices was observed for equipment for sport, camping and open-air recreation – 3.5, bicycles – 2.5, watches – 2.4, goods for babies – 1.6, stationery and drawing materials – 1.3, household furniture and non-electrical kitchen utensils and articles – 1.1 % each, while carpets and rugs went down in price by 3.2%, lighting equipment – 1.7%, non-durable household goods and other personal care goods – 1.3% each, cosmetics – 1%.

As for services, services of passenger transport by air went down in price by 15.3, sanatoriums – 4.9, package holidays – 3.2, accommodation – 17.7 %, while domestic services and household services went up in price by 3.2, repair of domestic appliances – 1.5, services of photographers – 1%.


In October 2016, annual (October 2016, against October 2015) inflation stood at 0.9%.

The annual inflation was mainly influenced by an increase in prices for tobacco products, catering services in restaurants, cafés and the like, maintenance and repair of personal transport equipment, spirits, beer, as well as by a decrease in prices for telephone services, vegetables, electricity, fuels and lubricants.


Over the year, prices for consumer goods and services increased by 0.1 and 3.4% respectively.

In October 2016, against October 2015, prices for consumer goods and services regulated by State and municipal authorities decreased by 2 %, while market prices increased by 1.3%.

Compared to the respective month of the previous year


Since June 2016, an increase in average annual inflation has been observed. In October 2016, average annual inflation stood at 0.6%.
