4% of employees in Latvia get paid under the table

BC, Riga, 21.10.2016.Print version
According to a survey carried out by the employment portal cvmarket.lv, 86 % of employees in Latvia have official employment contracts and pay all taxes, informs LETA.

4 % of respondents said that they were paid under the table, and another 4 % said that part of their salaries was paid under the table.

"Compared to the previous survey in 2015, when 380 respondents were interviewed, the situation has not improved too much. A year ago, 82 % said their full wages were reported to the state, while 5 % confessed that their wages were paid cash-in-hand," said cvmarket.lv representative Kristaps Kolosovs.

While employees who agree to be paid under the table should take part of the blame, one will always prefer to cash to no job at all, added Kolosovs.

According to a survey recently carried out by the Estonian portal CV Keskus, the situation with unreported employment in Estonia is similar to the situation in Latvia.
