Latvia posts EU's smallest annual inflation in July

In July, Latvian consumer prices increased 0.1% against the same month a year ago in what was the smallest annual inflation rate among all EU member states, according to the latest data released on Thursday by Eurostat.

Denmark and Ireland also registered 0.1% increases in consumer prices in July.

 

In July 2016, annual inflation was recorded in 15 EU member states, while 12 countries reported deflation, and in Lithuanian the consumer price level remained unchanged.

 

The biggest annual deflation was recorded in Croatia and Bulgaria where consumer prices fell 1.1% from July 2015, followed by Slovenia with 0.9%, and Spain with 0.7% annual deflation.

 

Meanwhile, the highest inflation was recorded in Belgium where prices climbed 2% year-on-year in July, followed by Sweden - 1.1%, as well as Malta - 0.9% and Estonia - 0.8%.

 

Meanwhile, compared to June of this year, Latvian consumer prices decreased 0.3% month-on-month in July.

 

Lithuania showed a monthly deflation of 0.8% and Estonian consumer prices remained unchanged from the previous month.
