Roughly one in four employees in Latvia, or 24%, consider changing jobs this year, representatives of TNS Latvia pollster said, citing a survey on labor market trends, informs LETA.

"We are seeing a situation on the labor market where employees' readiness and openness to job change is relatively high," the company's representatives said, adding that 24% of employees are considering changing jobs this year and 13% have no particular plans regarding this issue, which means that some of these respondents might also be secretly mulling a career change.

Meanwhile, 63% of respondents in the poll admitted they were not yet ready for new challenges.

The survey shows that most often the possibility of changing jobs is considered by younger employees (aged 18-29) and employees that have been working in the given organizations for a shorter period of time (1-5 years), as well as residents of Riga.

"Typically, changing jobs is a less frequently considered option among employees working in the public or municipal sector (despite the widespread myth that the private sector is luring the brightest minds from the public sector), long-standing employees (that have been working for the organization for 11 years and more), as well as employees with high personal and family income levels per family member (EUR 700 and more)," TNS representatives said.

The share of employees determined to carry on in their current jobs has significantly decreased from 2014, the TNS representatives said.

The poll reveals that 37% of employees believe that their chances of finding a better-paid job have increased, given their current job and profession, while 47% of the surveyed employees feel that their chances of finding a better job have not improved. At the same time, 16% of respondents have no particular opinion about the issue.

"The situation on the labor market is getting more favorable to the employees as the overall chances of finding better jobs are higher," said TNS Latvia research expert Signe Kanejeva, noting that employees' expectations regarding salaries are growing as well.

The online survey was carried out in January 2016 by polling 706 employees in Latvia.
