As many as 26% of people in Latvia expect their income to increase in 2016, informs LETA, according to a survey conducted by TNS Latvia pollster for LNT commercial TV channel.

4% of working-age Latvians expect their income to grow substantially in 2016, and 22% expect a small increase, the poll reveals.

Income growth was typically expected by younger respondents, aged 18 to 29, people with higher education and those who already earn EUR 701 or more a month.

At the same time, 45% of respondents in the poll said their income was likely to remain unchanged this year. This prognosis was most often given by respondents aged 40 to 55, as well as residents of rural regions.

Meanwhile, 20% of respondents anticipate a reduction of their income, with 12% expecting a slight reduction and eight% expecting a significant income drop.

9% of the surveyed people failed to answer the question.

The online survey was conducted from March 22 to 24, 2016, polling 1,000 residents of Latvia, aged 18 to 55.
