The unemployment level in Latvia might drop to 8% this year if there are no negative changes in the economy, said Welfare Ministry’s labor market policy department director Imants Lipskis at the Saeima employment subcommittee meeting on April 5th, informs LETA.

The State Employment Agency head Inese Kalvane reported to the lawmakers on the implemented employment events and their results.

She said that funding for active employment events will grow by almost EUR 14 million this year to EUR 38 million, including EUR 30.2 million financing from the European Social Fund.

In early 2015, the unemployment level in Latvia was 9%, and in late 2015, it had dropped to 8.7%. Citing the Economics Ministry’s data, in the coming five years the unemployment level should near the natural level of 5-6%.
