Lithuania among most dependent on energy imports in EU-28

Lithuania’s energy dependency rate was one of the highest across the European Union (EU) in 2014, data from Eurostat showed on Thursday, cites LETA/BNS.

The country’s energy dependency in 2014 stood at 77.9%, which means that Lithuania needed to import more than three fourths of the energy it consumed that year.

 

Lithuania’s energy dependency ranged from the lows of 41.6% in 2002 to the highs of 81.8% in 2010.

 

Latvia’s and Estonia’s energy dependency rates in 2014 stood at 40.6% and 8.9%, respectively, and were the lowest since 1990.

 

The energy dependency of the whole EU stood at 53.4% in 2014.
