Latvia registers EU's steepest reduction in house prices in Q3

Compared to the respective period in 2014, house prices reduced 7.6% in Latvia in the third quarter of 2015, the steepest decrease in the European Union, informs LETA, according to the latest data from the EU's statistical office Eurostat.

Croatia registered the second largest year-on-year reduction in house prices – by 3%, followed by Italy – 2.3%, and France – 1.2%.

 

The steepest year-on-year increase in house prices among all EU countries for which data are available was registered in Sweden – 13.7%, Austria – 9.3%, Ireland – 8.9%, and Denmark – 7.2%.

 

In Lithuania, house prices in the third quarter increased by 3.4%, but in Estonia – by 4%.


House prices increased by in 2.3% euro area and by 3.1% in the EU in the third quarter of 2015, compared to the third quarter of 2014.

 

Meanwhile, compared to the second quarter of 2015, house prices increased 1% in the euro area and by 1.3% in the EU in the third quarter of last year.

 

The steepest quarter-on-quarter increases in house prices were registered in Malta – 6.2%, Ireland – 4.5%, Austria – 4.1%, and Sweden and Great Britain – by 3.9%.

 

The largest quarter-on-quarter reductions were reported by Hungary – 5.9%, Slovenia – 3.5%, and Estonia – 1.9%.

 

In Latvia house prices in the third quarter of last year, compared with the previous quarter, increased by 0.6%, but in Lithuania – by 1.6%.
