The most rapid construction output fall in Q4 was registered in Estonia

Construction volume in Latvia plunged 10.3% in the fourth quarter of 2008, compared with the same period in 2007; it was the fourth steepest fall of construction output among all European Union countries, according to the EU statistical office Eurostat data released today. Construction output fall in Estonia made 19.8% and in Lithuania – 7%.

Even more rapid decrease of construction output in Q4 was registered in Estonia – down 19.8%, Spain – 19.7% and Lithuania – 7%. In the 27 European Union countries in total, the construction volume shrank 7%, writes LETA.

 

On the contrary, Romania, Slovakia, Netherlands and Slovenia registered increase in construction output – up by 14.6%, 14.2%, 4.4% and 4.3% respectively.

 

Compared with Q3 last year, the construction sector in Latvia in Q4 contracted by 8.5%, which is the third steepest drop among all EU countries. The strongest contraction of construction volume was registered in Slovenia – 11.4% and Lithuania – 8.8%.

 

The countries, where the construction output grew the most, compared with the previous quarter of last year, were Slovakia with 2%, Germany with 1.6% and Romania and Netherlands with 1.1% each.

 

The average drop of the total EU construction volume output in Q4 last year, compared with Q3, was 2.2%, whereas in the Euro-zone countries it was 3%.
