Registered unemployment in Estonia grows to 4.2% in October

Altogether 26,802 people, making up 4.2% of the working-age population or 0.1 percentage point more than at the end of September 2015, were registered as unemployed in Estonia at the end of October, the Unemployment Insurance Fund reported BNS/LETA.

The rate of registered unemployment was highest as usual in East-Viru County at 8.9% and Valga County at 8.1%, and lowest in the Harju and Tartu counties at respectively 3% and 3.3%. Manual workers made up the biggest part of the registered jobless who had previously worked, accounting for 19%, while service and sales personnel made up the second biggest part with 18%. Next, at 17%, came skilled workers and artificers.

 

New job offers added to the list of offerings of the Unemployment Insurance Fund numbered 3,096. In October 7,536 people found work or started business with the help of the Unemployment Insurance Fund.

 

Recipients of the unemployment insurance benefit numbered 9,187 in October, making up 30% of the registered jobless. The average benefit per calendar month was 399 euros and the sum total disbursed was roughly 3.1 million euros. The basic unemployment allowance of 124 euros a month was paid to 7,418 persons, 24% of the total number of registered jobless.

 

The redundancy benefit was paid to 666 people in October and the average size of the benefit awarded in that month was 1,458 euros. The sum total paid out in redundancy benefits was more than 985,000 euros. The benefit in case of insolvency of the employer was awarded to 89 persons. The average size of the benefit was 2,739 euros and overall more than 139,000 euros was disbursed under that item.
