One-fifth pensioners in Estonia continue working to supplement their income

BC, Tallinn, 25.08.2015.Print version
There are slightly more than 300,000 old-age pensioners in Estonia, and one fifth of them work after reaching the pension age, writes LETA/National Broadcasting.

Statistics demonstrate that people mostly continue working until reaching the age of 70.

According to the Tax and Customs Board, few of the working pensioners earn minimum wage; majority are earning more.

“Average payment of wage in 2014 amounted to 621 euros, and during the first six months of 2015 we see that this year's average wage payment exceeds that of 2014,” said Head of the Information Department of the Tax and Customs Board Tõnis Kuusk.

According to him, pensioners who continued working after reaching pensionable age last year mostly worked in public administration, education and health care sectors.
