Lithuanian hotels accommodated by 4.8% more guests in Q2

According to the provisional data of Statistics Lithuania, in II quarter 2015, accommodation establishments accommodated by 4.8% more guests than in the same quarter of 2014 and received 663.4 thousand tourists.

The number of tourists from the EU countries totalled 229.7 thousand (by 5.9% more than in the same quarter of 2014), from non-EU countries – 148.6 thousand (by 6.1% less). The number of Lithuania's residents accommodated grew by 10.6% and totalled 285.1 thousand.

 

The majority of foreign tourists were from Germany – 54.5 thousand (in II quarter 2014, 55 thousand), Poland – 38.9 thousand (in II quarter 2014, 38.2 thousand), Belarus – 37.6 thousand (in II quarter 2014, 42.5 thousand), Russia – 37 thousand (in II quarter 2014, 57.6 thousand), Latvia – 30.9 thousand (in II quarter 2014, 27.5 thousand), Ukraine – 14.9 thousand (in II quarter 2014, 11.7 thousand), Estonia – 14.7 thousand (in II quarter 2014, 13.1 thousand), the United  Kingdom – 14.4 thousand (in II quarter 2014, 13.2 thousand), and  Norway – 12.4 thousand (in II quarter 2014, 8.6 thousand). More than half of foreign tourists – 58.6% – stayed in Vilnius.

 

Almost a quarter of tourists (23.9%) stayed in the accommodation establishments of resort towns: Druskininkai – 70.6 thousand (by 8.6% more than in II quarter 2014), Palanga – 59.8 thousand (by 2.9% more), Neringa – 15.2 thousand (by 4.2% more), Birštonas – 13.2 thousand (by 15.8% more).

 

In January–June 2015, accommodation establishments received almost 1.1 million tourists, or by 5% more than in the same period of 2014; the number of foreigners amounted to 587.7 thousand (by 0.2% more).

In II quarter 2015, compared to same quarter of 2014, Lithuanian hotels and motels accommodated by 4.6% more tourists; the number of foreign tourists accommodated increased by 0.4%. The number of rooms in hotels and motels totalled 13.5 thousand (in II quarter 2014, 13.5 thousand), that of beds – 27.8 thousand (in II quarter 2014, 27.7 thousand). The hotel and motel room occupancy rate stood at 52.7% (in II quarter 2014, 51.8%), the bed occupancy rate – 39.4% (in II quarter 2014, 39.2%).

 

In II quarter 2015, Vilnius hotels and motels accommodated 238.1 thousand tourists, which is by 1.4% more than in the same quarter of 2014; the number of foreign tourists amounted to 200.6 thousand, or by 1.4% more.

 

In the first half-year 2015, hotels and motels received 878 thousand tourists, or by 4.8% more than in the same period of 2014; the number of foreigners amounted to 516.9 thousand (by 0.3% less).

Concepts

Accommodation establishment refers to a local kind-of-activity unit providing paid short-stay accommodation services and facilities to satisfy overnight accommodation and hygienic needs.

 

Number of tourists accommodated includes Lithuanian residents and foreign visitors with at least one overnight stay in an accommodation establishment.
