Unemployment level in Latvia unchanged at 8.6% in July

The registered unemployment rate in Latvia did not change in July 2015 and stood at 8.6% of the economically-active population at the end of last month, reports LETA, according to information on the State Employment Agency's website.

At the beginning of July, 80,688 persons were registered as unemployed with the Employment Agency, whereas at the end of July there were 80,671 unemployed.

 

Riga Region had the lowest unemployment level of 5.4%, while Latgale province the highest – 18.5%. Unemployment level in Kurzeme is 10.9%, 9.4% in Vidzeme and 8.1% in Zemgale.

 

Compared to June, unemployment level reduced in Latgale and Zemgale, whereas in Riga it increased 0.1%age points. Unemployment level in Kurzeme and Vidzeme did not change in July.

 

Among the cities, Riga had the lowest unemployment of 5.1%, Jurmala – 5.8%, Valmiera – 6.1%, Jelgava – 6.9%, Ventspils – 7.3%, Jekabpils – 9.6%, Daugavpils – 10.8%, Liepaja – 12%, Rezekne – 15.8%.

 

Compared to July, unemployment in Riga increased 0.1%age points in July, and unemployment in Liepaja rose 0.2 percentage points. In other cities, the unemployment rate either remained unchanged or decreased.

 

At the end of July, there were 6,448 vacancies in the Employment Agency's database.


3,973 unemployed found permanent jobs in July.

 

As reported, the registered unemployment level in Latvia was 8.6% in June and May. In April, the unemployment level was 8.8%, and in March 9.2%.
