The highest average forest regeneration costs in 2014, which include soil preparation, plant and planting costs were recorded in the forests with the 3rd quality group¹ forest land (662.35 EUR/ha); while the lowest – in the forests with the 1st quality group¹ forest land (557.73 EUR/ha).

Forest tending costs in 2014, which also include agro-technical tending of forest and tending of young growths, in Latvia on average comprised EUR 218 – EUR 240 per hectare. In 2014, the greatest forest tending costs were recorded in the forests with the 3rd quality group forest land (239.90 EUR/ha).

In 2014, the average harvesting costs (per one timber cubic meter) in final felling constituted EUR 16.44, but in intermediate felling – EUR 20.78. Harvesting costs refer to the final felling, where part of the forest is felled almost completely, and intermediate felling (thinning, conversion cutting, sanitary cutting), where felling is made partly. Each of the felling types includes wood preparation, transportation to the road and transportation to the purchase place.

As compared to 2013, average harvesting costs in the final felling in 2014 have reduced by 4.3%, whereas in intermediate felling they have remained at the previous year’s level. The total value of the harvesting costs in final felling and intermediate felling are formed by the labour costs and transportation costs, including, costs of the machinery used. Wood cutting in the intermediate felling is performed by sampling trees; therefore total harvesting costs in this felling type are higher, as compared to the final felling, where almost all trees are cut.
