Registered unemployment in Lithuania stood at 8.5% in June
There were more vacancies for nurses, mechanical engineers, hairdressers, carpenters and joiners. Of the unskilled workers, more job proposals were registered for sweepers and environment managers.
The number of registered unemployed dropped with summer approaching. In May, 19,600 unemployed people were looking for work at the Labour Exchange. This is by 1,000 fewer compared to April 2015 and by 13,300 fewer compared to May 2014.
By 1 June 2015, 154,600 unemployed people were registered with the Lithuanian Labour Exchange. This accounts for 8.5% of the total working-age population in Lithuania. Of this number, 26,000 were people under 29 years of age.
By 1 June, the biggest unemployment was registered in Ignalina district – 16.2%, Alytus district – 14.6%, Lazdijai and Jurbarkas districts 14.5% each. Unemployment was the lowest in Kretinga district – 4.7%, Trakai district – 4.8% and Elektrenai – 4.9%. Registered unemployment in all major cities was below the average figure in the country. Unemployment remained the highest in Panevezys – 8.4%, but it was the lowest in Siauliai – 5.4%.
Territorial Labour Exchanges helped 30,900 people find jobs in May. Most of them, 16,100, were employed under contract, over 7,000 became self-employed with business licences for up to 6 months, while 7,700 were provided subsidised employment. In January-May 2015, employment intermediation and subsidised employment services were provided to 134,400 people.
