Latvia continues to see reduction in number of residents registered as needy

Print versionLatvia continued to see a reduction in the number of residents registered as living below the poverty line in April 2015, the Welfare Ministry informs LETA.

In April, 60,659 persons were registered as needy, which was by 3,123 persons less than the previous month.
The number of residents registered as living below the poverty line has reduced quite considerably since the beginning of last year, when 83,273 residents were registered as needy.
This past April, the number of needy residents was 3.06% of the total population, compared to 3.21% the previous month.
There has also been a reduction in welfare benefits paid out to needy residents – from EUR 5.17 million in March, to EUR 4.21 in April.
