BC, Tallinn, 12.05.2015.Print version
According to the March Eurobarometer survey, 92% of the Estonian residents agree that it is safe to live where they live but unlike with other Europeans, the sense of security of Estonians is most affected by their household's financial situation, LETA/Public Broadcasting reports.

Unlike all other European countries, Estonian residents said that most important factor affecting their security is their household's financial situation, while for other European Union nationals, the positive key to safety is respecting fundamental rights and freedoms, such as freedom of expression and freedom of religion and lack of discrimination in the country.

Estonian people consider the safety of their hometown most highly, followed by secure life in the Estonian state (91%), and in the European Union (86%).

According to the survey, 64% of Estonians consider the role of the police in ensuring the safety of the country' very important and just 48% of people see people themselves as having a very important role in this.

While in the EU, 65% of people thinks that the greatest challenge for the European Union's security is terrorism, but in Estonia this figure is the lowest in the European Union, just 17%.

While in EU, 54% of people consider organised crime a very important threat, in Estonia just 9% do.

The European Commission's Eurobarometer survey on Europeans' attitudes towards safety included interviews with over 28,000 Europeans from all Member States, including 1,002 people in Estonia.
