Unemployment rate in Latvia reached 9.5% in February

The unemployment level increased significantly once again in Latvia in February 2009, as the State Employment Agency (SEA) informs. The registered unemployment rate was 9.5% at the end of February, or 1.2 percentage points more than in January.

Overall, 90,436 unemployed were registered with the Employment Agency at the beginning of February, the figure increased to 103,731 by the end of the month, writes LETA.

 

The highest unemployment rate in February in Latvia was registered in Rezekne District (eastern Latvia) – 21.2%. There have also been substantial increases in the unemployment rate in Aizkraukle District (southern Latvia) and Dobele District (southern Latvia).

 

Exact statistics on the unemployment levels in each of the country's districts will be released by the SEA next week.
