In 2014, Lithuanian museums were visited by 3.8 mln people

In 2014, 3,862 libraries (2,561 of them in educational establishments), 632 culture centres, 104 museums, 39 theatres, 7 state concert organisations, 28 cinemas and film halls operated in Lithuania, reports LETA/ELTA.

In 2014, museums were visited by 3.8 million people, by 170,000 or 4.4% more compared to 2013. As every year, the Lithuanian Sea Museum attracted the most visitors, 468,000, followed by Trakai Historic Museum (354,000), the National Museum of Lithuania (299,000) and National Museum – Palace of the Grand Dukes of Lithuania (246,000). In 2014 museums hosted 264 international exhibitions and published 108 publications about their activities.

 

5,600 plays were shown in Lithuanian theatres in 2014. This is by 698 more than in 2013. The number of spectators increased from 1.05 million to 1.22 million per year, i.e. by 171,000 or 14%.

 

3.3 million viewers visited cinemas in 2014, almost the same exact number as in 2013. The number of cinema visits per capita stood at 1.2. There were 76 screens, which showed on average 1,400 movies per screen. 30 screens were located in Vilnius – 40% of the total screens in Lithuania. Vilnius cinemas were visited by 1.4 million viewers, 42% of the total viewers. Cinemas recorded EUR 14.4 million in revenue for ticket sales, by EUR 1.2 million more year-on-year.

 

662,000 registered readers visited Lithuanian libraries in 2014, or every fifth resident. Libraries recorded a total of 11 million visits, 17 visits per capita. The number of library readers dropped by 17,000, from 679,000 to 662,000. Currently one library on average services 500 readers.

 

In 2014 state concert organisations held 929 more concerts, a 5% increase compared to 2013. However they were visited by 2% fewer viewers, a decrease from 148,000 to 145,000.

 

3,900 amateur artist groups held 48,000 concerts and other events in 632 culture centres.
