At the end of 2014, residents of Lithuania gave a better assessment to changes in both their household's and the country's economic situation during the last 12 months than a year ago, reports LETA/ELTA, referring to Statistics Lithuania.

In December 2014, a total of 14% of the population stated that during the last year their household's financial situation improved, 22% – that it deteriorated (in December 2013 – 15 and 26%, in December 2012 – 10 and 34% respectively).

In assessing their household's current financial situation, 38% of the population stated that they managed to build up some savings, while 8% said that they had to spend their savings or go into debt (in December 2013 – 39 and 10%, in December 2012 – 29 and 11% respectively).

Residents gave a better assessment to the changes in the economic situation in the country in the last 12 months than to the changes in the financial situation of their households during the same period. In December 2014, 29% of the population stated that over the last year the country's economic situation improved, the same percentage – that it deteriorated (at the end of 2013 – 24 and 31%, at the end of 2012 – 16 and 46% respectively). The best assessments were given to changes in the country's economic situation in June, August and December.

In December 2014, the consumer confidence indicator stood at –16. Compared to December 2013, it decreased by 7 percentage points, while over two years, i.e. compared to December 2012, it remained unchanged.

In 2014, rather large fluctuations in consumer confidence were observed: in the first half of the year, consumer confidence had been slowly decreasing; in the middle of the year, pessimistic moods had become even more obvious, and in August-September the consumer confidence indicator had fallen to –20; however, from October, an increase in consumer confidence was observed again.
