The press office of the Government of Estonia reported: The Prime Minister of Estonia Andrus Ansip had a meeting with David Bakradze, the Georgian parliament speaker, and the Parliamentary delegation accompanying him, where the effects of the financial crisis on the economy of the countries and the situation in Georgia after the conflict were discussed; Ansip stressed that Estonia supported the territorial integrity of Georgia, writes LETA.

Bakradze described the situation that has developed in Georgia, noting that the state is making efforts to continue the development of civil society in the conditions of the current economic depression. The Government has cut the budget, but the expenses in the field of education and social affairs are still increasing. The Government is also engaged in a plan to enliven the economy, which mainly prescribes investments in infrastructure.

Ansip noted that Estonia supported continued development of a democratic Georgia. "Estonia does not support just one political power in Georgia, but the development of the entire state and people," he noted. Georgia is a priority country of development cooperation, to which 40% of Estonian funds for bilateral development cooperation is directed.

Both parties were of the opinion that integration of Georgia into Europe must continue, and not only in theory.

When speaking about the military conflict between Georgia and Russia, Ansip stated that the events which took place in August of the last year were the tragedy.

"Estonia did and will continue to support the territorial integrity of Georgia," he stressed.
