In 2014, the best natural population increase figure registered in Latvia since 2010

21,532 children were born in Latvia in 2014, and even though the number of deaths still exceeds the number of births in the country, last year saw the best natural population increase figure since 2010, reports LETA, according to the Central Statistical Bureau.

21,532 children were born in Latvia last year, compared to 28,438 deaths, thus the number of deaths exceeded the number of births by 6,906.

 

However, the natural population growth figure, compared to 2013, has improved, as 20,596 children were born in Latvia in 2013, compared to 28,981 deaths.

 

This means that the birthrate in 2014, compared to the previous year, increased by 4.34 percent.


According to the CSB, the birthrate and the natural population growth figure has been gradually improving since 2010.
