The immigration rate has slightly increased in Latvia in 2014 (until November), deputy head of the Central Statistical Bureau Kaspars Misans said in an interview with the LNT show "900 sekundes" this morning, cites LETA.

About 9,000-10,000 people moved to Latvia in the first ten months of this year, which is slightly more than in 2013. Misans said that this can be explained with the geopolitical situation.

Meanwhile, the number of emigrants was 22,000 in the first ten months of this year.

Misans told LNT television that the birth rate has gone up as well. The number of newborns reached 18,000 in the first ten months of this year – 800 more than in the respective period of 2013.

The death rate has decreased also. A total of 24,000 people died in the first ten months of this year – 400 fewer than in the respective period of 2013.

This also means that the natural population growth is still negative in Latvia, Misans said.
