Average Estonian spends around 340 euros in stores in December

In December 2014, retail sales in Estonia increase by an average of a fifth at constant prices as compared to the previous month due to Christmas sales, LETA/Delfi writes.

Last December, 446 million euros worth of goods were sold in stores in Estonia, meaning that an average of 338 euros per capita was spent in stores. This is nearly a fifth more than in November 2013.

 

The largest share of retail sales or 66% contributed super- and hypermarkets, which boosted their retail sales by 27% in December.

 

December also proved popular in specialized stores, which mainly sell computers and their accessories, photography supplies, books, sports equipment, games, toys and the like. In these stores, retail sales increased 38% compared to November, these stores provided 17% of total retail sales growth.

 

When comparing net sales in the Baltic countries, per capita, then in December 2013, it was 391 euros in Estonia, which was 45% higher than in Lithuania (269 euros) and 32% higher than in Latvia (297 euros).
