Ilves: Estonia and Finland should harmonise e-services

BC, Tallinn, 11.01.2013.Print version
Estonian President Toomas Hendrik Ilves proposed in his speech at the CyberStrat conference on Thursday in Helsinki that Estonia and Finland would both benefit from harmonising their e-services, LETA/Postimees Online reports.

"If Finland used e-solutions that would be compatible with the Estonian ones, we would both benefit. For example all participants would benefit from using the digital signature and digital medical prescriptions across state borders," Ilves said.

President Ilves said that in the future Estonia could cooperate in e-services with Sweden and Denmark too. "Nordic states' successful e-cooperation would be a role model for the whole Europe and our joint aim could be a pan-European X-road."

The X-Road was launched in 2001 in Estonia. The data exchange layer X-Road is a technical and organisational environment, which enables secure Internet-based data exchange between the state’s information systems.
