Nearly a thousand computers in Estonia affected by virus Sinowal

Estonian experts estimate that there are approximately a thousand computers that have been infected by the virus Sinowal and it is highly likely that the data of the users of these computers have reached the criminals, writes Postimees Online/LETA.

Information security expert of CERT Estonia (Computer Emergency Response Team) Tarmo Randel stated that Sinowal is dangerous because it is difficult to notice it.

Randel noted that people who are creating the virus use well-developed technologies and therefore anti-virus software cannot discover many of the viruses that have invaded the computer. He added, however, that most viruses spread with the active aid from users of computers by exploiting their simple-mindedness.

According to a security report by Microsoft that reflects the first half of the year, the number of infected computers in Estonia has increased by 18.7% in the year-on-year comparison.

CERT Estonia deals with ensuring cyber security in the Estonian State network and organises cybersecurity on the national level.
