Via the video conference, the Lithuanian president congratulated the participants and answered questions, informs LETA/ELTA.

"After four years, 90% of all the jobs in all sectors will be available for those who know how to use information and communication technologies. To speed up the development of the European Union as the union of innovation, we have to admit and revise our stereotypes, increase the participation of young women and arouse their desire to learn to use information technologies and seek careers in this field," the Lithuanian head of state said.

The event is attended by European Commissioner Neelie Kroes, MEPs, successful female scientists and businesswomen women.

The high-level conference jointly organized by the European Commission's DG Information Society and Media and the National Innovation Office in collaboration with the Hungarian Academy of Sciences and the European Centre for Women and Technology (ECWT) desires to highlight the added value of the gender dimension in science, innovation and technology and function as an important step in creating a new innovative European action-platform for ensuring equal participation in these areas by 2015.
