The European Parliament’s ICT working group visited the Estonian ICT demo centre in Ülemiste City on Thursday, writes LETA/Postimees Online. The delegation was surprised by the volume of e-services provided in Estonia.

The objective of the EP’s delegation’s visit was to learn about the current state of the ICT sector in Estonia and about the future perspectives and to accumulate ideas for its organisation of work.

Member of the E-Government Academy Ivar Tallo commented that it was remarkable that Estonia is an interesting destination for developed Europe – this region also has valuable lessons to learn from Estonia.

“The technology services created in Estonia were of great interest to visitors,” said Tallo. He explained that the main issue of focus were Estonian data protection solutions and experiences in the field of information security.

Managing director of the Estonian ICT demo centre Indrek Vimberg added that although Estonia is known for its success in the field of ICT and the visitors were well versed in the area, the visitors were nevertheless surprised by the wide-spread use of e-identities and by the variety of e-solutions provided here.
