The year 2009 is planned to be turned into a year of innovation in Estonia. The purpose of the year of innovation is to stress the importance of innovations, motivate entrepreneurs to conduct their business in a smarter manner, better adapt to new market situations and find competitive advantages. The activities of the year of innovation not only involve entrepreneurs, but are also aimed at shaping the innovative spirit of the entire society.

As the activities are diverse, involve a wide target group and last for the whole year, Enterprise Estonia organised an idea contest in April for the implementation of the “Year of Innovation 2009”. 6 concepts were submitted, which united the existing activities raising innovation awareness into a whole, and added new diverse activities as well.

A jury evaluated the ideas and declared the concept “Edasi saab nõuga!” (“Advice gets you ahead!”) submitted by Summit OÜ as the best, and awarded the contestant the sum of EEK 150 000. The concept “2009 – lennukate ideede aasta” (“2009 – year of high-flying ideas”) by the consortium of Tallinn University of Technology was awarded second place, and third place was awarded to the concept “Think Big!” submitted by BDA Consulting. Negotiations will be held with the best one for the implementation of the ideas of “Year of Innovation 2009”.

The idea contest for the innovation year was co-funded by the European Social Fund in the framework of the innovation awareness programme of Enterprise Estonia.
