“EMT is the first to open the 4G test network in Estonia. If the data is correct it is the first official opening of a 4G test network in Eastern Europe,“ said EMT’s board chairman Valdo Kalm at an event in the Solaris centre in Tallinn on Thursday.
EMT had brought a 4G station to the centre that sent fast mobile data communications to two laptops that were supplied with Samsung’s 4G modems.
EMT’s development and technology director Tõnu Grünberg said that this year, the state is likely to hold a 4G frequency competition for local operators. He was unable to say when EMT would open its 4G to clients.
4G mobile communications enable extra fast data exchange, being up to 5 times faster than the 3G network. Currently the 4G test network operates in EMT’s centre in Solaris.
