Estonia is one of the most forward-looking countries in the IT development sphere in Europe, which was acknowledged by Microsoft represenatives at the e- governance conference held in Brussels, Estonian Free Press reported, referring to ERR/LETA.

Estonia is included in the "Top ten" e- solutions.

"When talking about the IT-services that are enabled to the citizens, Estonia is amazing. Latvia and Lithuania are not far also. You are way ahead of the rest of Eastern Europe," said Microsoft e- governance program's director Daniel Maly.

E- voting, internet banking and digital signature are familiar in Estonia, moreover, widely used by its inhabitants. Meanwhile, in the old Europe you can not even find wireless internet. Researches show that 38% of Europeans do not know how to use the Internet.

"There is a question about Estonia's competitive advantage in the future? If you establish an infrastructure today, then in the future it should contribute global economical competitiveness," noted Microsoft's leader in Europe, Jan Muhlfeit.

Estonia is hoping to collect supporters for Estonia and bring the EU's IT agency to Tallinn. That would give a new impulse to IT development in Estonia.

The decision about the IT agency's location will be made next year in Brussels.
