Meldonium, the main ingredient used in the production of Latvian-made Mildtronate medication, might be removed from the World Anti-Doping Agency's (WADA) list of banned substances already this year, Ivars Kalvins, director of the Latvian Institute of Organic Synthesis, said in an interview with LNT commercial TV channel, cites LETA.

Kalvins is scheduled to meet with WADA representatives in Kanada in September to discuss the issue.

"The WADA has had to make concessions on the meldonium issue twice already, and the third concession will be when Mildronate is removed from the list of banned substances," the Latvian scientist said.

Kalvins hopes that his invention Mildronate might be removed from the WADA list already this year.

As reported, WADA included Mildronate in the list of banned substances last year, citing "evidence of its use by athletes with the intention of enhancing performance".
