The activists who sent into space Estonia's first student satellite ESTCube-1 have established the Estonian Student Satellite Foundation which is making plans for an ESTCube-2 and also an ESTCube-3, informs LETA/BNS.

May 7 marks the third anniversary of the launch of ESTCube-1 and on this date the founding of the independent Estonian Student Satellite Foundation will be announced.

The ESTCube-1 mission resulted in scientific research papers and discoveries simplifying people's everyday lives, a number of start-ups, 50 baccalaureate and master's degree dissertations. Participating in the first satellite team were more than 100 students from nine countries. The ESTCube space missions engage young people already at the upper secondary school level, enabling them to acquire secrets of exact sciences and practical experience that cannot be obtained elsewhere.

The freshly appointed ESTCube-2 team leader, Karl Reinkubjas, said space is the next big challenge for the mankind. "The aim of building ESTCube-2 is to make a contribution to the discovery of space already now and to obtain invaluable experience," he said.

The ESTCube-2 project is the springboard that will help Estonian science to scale new heights, Reinkubjas said.
