Program may bring 400 foreign IT specialists to work in Estonia

BC, Tallinn, 15.12.2015.Print version
As a result of the information campaign conducted by Enterprise Estonia in the framework of its Work in Estonia program, more than 400 IT specialists in Ukraine and Finland wish to come to Estonia to work here, Enterprise Estonia said on December 15th, cites LETA.

Karin Patune, project manager for Work in Estonia, said that based on feedback from businesses it can be concluded that the communication campaigns carried out in the target countries have helped improve the visibility of job offers. During seven months job offers published on the portal have been viewed almost 40,000 times.

"Our program helped companies with the things they don't have time to do themselves – presenting Estonia as an attractive country to work in, both by means of communication activities in the target countries as well as creation of materials presenting Estonia," Patune said.

Laura Eelmaa, personnel manager at the IT company Tieto Eesti, said the company has hired more than 70 Finns, Swedes and Norwegians to work in Estonia over the past year. "Hiring in foreign markets, we've actively used the marketing materials of the Work in Estonia program," Eelmaa said.

The developer of gaming software Playtech Estonia said it was inevitable to hire specialists from outside Estonia for certain jobs. During the Work in Estonia campaign double the usual number of candidates from Finland sent their CVs to Playtech.

Work in Estonia is run with an annual budget of approximately 400,000 euros.

Patune said payback of the investment can be assessed by calculating how many specialists the program must bring to Estonia to make up for the costs.

"The government will get back the 400,000 euros invested through labor taxes already when 21 workers have arrived in Estonia, provided that the gross wage per worker is 2,000 euros a month, which is the median wage for IT workers, and the period of employment is 19.3 months," Patune said.

Work in Estonia is a program launched by Enterprise Estonia in spring this year that supports businesses active in Estonia in hiring skilled specialists from abroad. The program is active in countries that are seen to be potential providers of workforce with necessary skills.

Communication activities under the program were first started in Finland and later a pilot project was carried out in Ukraine. In 2016, activities will continue in both countries and more countries are being explored as potential targets of the program.
