E-mail correspondence proves that American investment fund has effectively robbed its Latvian partners in Ukraine
12.08.2020It has been confirmed that the Ukrainian authorities have gained access to the e-mail correspondence between Valdis Muižnieks, former Director General of the Ukrainian company owned by SIA LU Invest, which belongs to a member of the Paškausks family – the owners of the renown Latvian agricultural group Agrolats Holding – and the CFO of a company involved in the chain of offshores created by US investment fund NCH Capital. The correspondence clearly demonstrates that for years the profit jointly earned in Ukraine has been channelled over to offshore companies in Cyprus, bypassing the Latvian partners who were only left with the losses.
Finance Ministry proposes starting tax reform by introducing mandatory health insurance payment
12.08.2020The Finance Ministry proposes reforming Latvia's tax system in three stages, introducing in the first stage a mandatory 5% health insurance payment without increasing the overall labor tax burden but instead redistributing the rates of state social security contributions, personal income tax and solidarity tax, LETA was told at the ministry.
Wholesale electricity prices fall across Baltics in July
12.08.2020Wholesale electricity prices fell by 18% on average both in Lithuania and Latvia and were down by 20% in Estonia in July from June, Elektrum Lietuva said on Wednesday, noting that the Baltic countries have for the first time registered a negative hourly price, referred LETA/BNS.
Lithuanian airports to be exempt from EUR 9.7 mln profit contribution
The Cabinet agreed in principle to exempt Lietuvos Oro Uostai (Lithuanian Airports, LOU) from transferring 9.7 million euros of its 2019 profit into the state's coffers to prevent the state-owned company from becoming insolvent, informs LETA/BNS.
Pensions of up to EUR 454 to be increased in October in Latvia
