Turnover of LDz Cargo down 6.5% in 9 months

LDz Cargo, the rail freight shipping subsidiary of Latvijas Dzelzcels (Latvian Railways) national rail company, turned over EUR 188.288 mln in the first nine months of 2019, which is a decrease of 6.5 percent against the respective period a year before, while the company’s profit was 4.7 times higher and came to EUR 818,263, according to information released by the company reported LETA.

The company’s management indicated that freight shipping by rail is the main business of LDz Cargo, ensuring 90.1% of its turnover. Revenue from cargo transportation declined in the said period by 7.2% or EUR 13.195 mln.


In the first nine months of 2018, LDz Cargo carried 31.643 mln tons of freight, which is 4.463 mln tons or 12.4% less than a year before. 


Of the freight carried last year 25.287 mln tons were import freight, down 14.1% y-o-y, export freight accounted for 1.704 mln tons, down 0.2%, transit freight accounted for 3.379 mln tons, down 14.2%, and domestic freight rose 22.2% to 1.273 mln tons.


The company also provides international passenger transportation services on the routes from Riga to St.Petersburg, Moscow, Minsk, Kyiv and Vilnius, In the first nine months of this year, LDz Cargo carried 131,171 passengers, growing by 9,525 passengers y-o-y.


In 2018, LDz Cargo turned over EUR 275.288 mln and made a EUR 1.957 mln profit.
