For Latvia's Development becomes political party with Repse as chairman

At its founding congress today, the social organization For Latvia's Development officially became a political party. 214 persons are in attendance, and 201 voted "yes", informs LETA.

Some of the noted personalities on hand – ex-PM Einars Repse, Edgars Jaunups, Dans Titavs, businessmen Olafs Berkis, Valerijs Belokons, Peteris Smidre, former chief of the National Opera Andrejs Zagars, former Economy Ministry State Secretary Juris Puce.

 

Calling itself a right-leaning conservative party, For Latvia's Development unites "professional and experienced persons who care about stable and long-term economic growth in Latvia, and the well-being of the people."

 

The just-founded political party – For Latvia's Development (FLD), has its chairman, as delegates voted in the now-former NGOs leader, Einars Repse.

 

The former prime minister and Bank of Latvia president, Repse was the sole candidate for chairman, and 207 voted him in.

 

Calling itself a right-leaning conservative party, delegates also adopted statutes.
