Gas imports to Lithuania up 44%

Gas imports to Lithuania rose almost 44 percent in the second half of last year, from the same period in 2018, despite the fact that gas consumption in the country dropped by a tenth, the latest figures from Lithuania's National Energy Regulatory Council show writes LETA/BNS.
In July-December last year, 15.776 TWh of gas was imported into Lithuania, including 4.789 TWh exported to other countries (mainly Estonia and Latvia) as the exports level jumped 3.2 times.
The NERC says a drop in gas prices in international markets lead to a rise of 58.7% to 15.768 TWh in their transportation via Lithuania. Including transit, gas transportation volumes rose 22.8% to 28.297 TWh in the second half of 2019 y-o-y.
Gas consumption in the country dropped 10.8% to 10.896 TWh in the country during that period.
Achema accounted for 59.1% of the gas imports market in Lithuania, followed by Ignitis (31.6%), Imlitex (6.4%) and Haupas (2%).
