Austin commended Estonia's digital development and noted that British Columbia has a lot to learn from Estonia, spokespeople for the Estonian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said. The lieutenant governor added that the activity of honorary consuls helps promote the digital cooperation between British Columbia and Estonia.

Lukk said that Canada, including British Columbia, and Estonia are countries with similar thinking when it comes to digitalization. "We perceive the digital revolution similarly as an opportunity to deliver better quality public services to society and promote entrepreneurship," the ambassador added.

He called for mutual learning from each other's experience and reaffirmed Estonia's readiness to promote cooperation. The ambassador also thanked former Estonian honorary consul Harry Jaako for his work and dedication. Lukk also congratulated honorary consul Eveleen Roy Jaager and vice honorary consul Evi Olga Mustel on joining the network of numerous Estonian honorary consuls and expressed support to them in promoting Estonia's interest in British Columbia.

A meeting with Minister of Jobs, Trade and Technology of British Columbia Bruce Ralston also took place on Monday morning and involved discussion of cooperation in the digital field. On Tuesday, the Estonian ambassador is to meet with the local Estonian community in Vancouver.

In addition to Vancouver, Estonia has honorary consulates in Toronto, Halifax, Quebec and Edmonton. The Estonian embassy in Canada is located in the capital, Ottawa.
