Port of Tallinn's passenger number up, cargo volume down in October

In October 2014, the ports managed by the Estonian state-owned Tallinna Sadam (Port of Tallinn) handled 2 million tonnes of goods and serviced 746,000 passengers; while the cargo volume fell by 14.6% year-on-year, the number of passengers grew by 4.1% in a year, LETA/Public Broadcasting reports.

The biggest cargo group was in October liquid cargo with 1.17 million tonnes, which is by 13.9% less than a year ago. The volume of cargo transported in containers was 172,000 tonnes, a growth of 0.7%. The volume of ro-ro cargo grew by 7.2% to 377,000 and mixed cargo 13.5% to 55,300 tonnes. The volume of solid bulk goods fell by 43.9% to 239,400 tonnes.

 

In ten months, the company's cargo volumes have fallen by 0.6%. The biggest cargo group was liquid cargo with 15.8 million tonnes, a fall by 1% while transport of solid bulk goods fell 18.9% to 2.15 million tonnes. The number of cargo containers was 222,387 TEU, a growth of 3.7% while the volume of cargo transported in containers grew by 12.5% to 1.66 million tonnes.

 

In ten months, the port serviced 8.2 million passengers, a growth by 3.7% as compared to the same time last year.

 

In ten months, cargo ships visited ports of Tallinna Sadam on 1,668 and passenger ships on 4,132 occasions.
