The Foreign Affairs Ministry told LETA that during her meeting with Pinta, Skujina said that the strategic partnership between the European Union and Brazil offers additional opportunities to improve cooperation and facilitate bilateral dialogue.

Of particular interest is expanding commercial relations with Brazil as a transit and logistics center in the Baltic region for Brazilian export to the CIS markets.

Latvia also wants to attract investments from Brazil, therefore, in order to facilitate economic cooperation between Latvian and Brazilian proprietors, a memorandum of understanding was signed between the Freeport of Riga and the Port of Santos in the state of Sao Paulo. Latvian Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Sao Paulo Trade Association for the Industries (FIESP) signed a memorandum of cooperation.

Skujina also informed Pinta about the opportunities to cooperate and Latvia's interest in the program "Science Without Boundaries", in regard to which the government of Brazil grants scholarships to Brazilian science students for studies abroad.
